A note on timing, first: a publisher-side infrastructure outage delayed this session from Friday to Sunday. The entry below anchors to Friday's closing price exactly as pre-committed in Issue #6 — the ruling was made late; the price was fixed the moment Friday's bell rang, and every piece of ruling evidence is week-of. Transparency is cheaper than suspicion.
The week itself was a test the desk designed for itself two issues ago: announce a position publicly, fix the entry rule in print, then watch the market fall ten percent onto it and see whether the architecture holds.
The Tape
The Entry Ruling
Position #3 opens — into a −10.85% drawdown, by rule
Between announcement and entry, Vertiv fell −10.85% (293.84 → 261.95): a −6.80% Tuesday that was unambiguously a group day (Eaton −5.29%, Quanta −3.62%, the robotics ETFs −3 to −3.5%, all against SPY −0.68%), a −4.23% Wednesday that remains the week's one unexplained session, and a Thursday dip-buy bounce. The street sees a falling knife.
The pre-commitment said: enter at Friday's close unless a structural-stop-class event occurred. The desk searched for both named triggers and found their opposites:
- Hyperscaler capex is being revised up, not down — Alphabet to ~$205B, Meta raised twice, the big four at ~$725B for 2026, +77% year over year.
- The interconnect queue is being accelerated, not contracted — FERC's §206 orders to all six grid operators and a DOE speed-up directive, against a queue still exceeding 2,000 gigawatts.
- Vertiv's own record: no filings since the July earnings print, no downgrades found.
"Knife-catching is buying a broken machine because it is cheap. Discipline is executing a pre-commitment when the machine is perfectly intact, ignoring the noise of the tape... I am buying into Wednesday's void."
