Its not just boxes!

This guy found himself without furniture and too many FedEx boxes. So, what does he do? Same as the rest of us might do if we had a degree in design, he built all the furniture.. Out of FedEx boxes. And just like we'd all do if we were proud of building something, he created a website. Now FedEx wants to shut him down. The tried to use the DCMA (Digital Copy write Millennium Act - Which prohibits trying to circumvent digital copy protection... I'm not sure what that has to do with Boxes and Furniture) to shut his site down.

I understand they have a trademark they need to protect. But there has to be a better way for them to do it.

JustBlogIt with a simple right-click.

Alright, I found a cool website (that will be in the next entry) that I wanted to blog about. But I hadn't gotten around to installing a Firefox extension to facilitate easily blogging about a website (and I certainly don't want this to turn into a website of the day type blog). So I went hunting around. For anyone running Firefox (And if your not why not?), who blogs, "justBlogIt" is very handy. Right click on the page you want to blog about, and it brings up your blog editor for what ever blogging system you use (LiveJournal, moveable type, blogger, etc) and even allows setting up for blog software it doesn't know about (Like Serendipty which I use on i40.com).

It also allows you to store 4 different blog profiles, so you can choose which blog you want to post in. (Although can't use it to post to more than one blog at a time, luckily serendipity handles that for me).

Next Post. Corporate America tries to squash the little guy.

The Six String cafe (the best place to see local/regional musicians in the triangle) in cary, North Carolina, is closing it's doors at the end of the month after 4 years.

We used to go to the six string often (especially after the Hyphen closed) at least twice a month, sometimes weekly. Our food/beverage tab was usually under $15 (That’s on top of the Cover, and the CDs we'd almost always buy) and only do dinner there when we were running late (8pm shows and mediocre overpriced sandwiches aren't a great recipe for pulling in the dinner crowd), which may be why we never felt welcome there (I don't ever remember the staff smiling, or thanking us for coming out, or maybe other venues spoiled us).

The music however was top notch. From Kid Sister/Wall of Jules to Sam Anderson/Lindsay Smith to what was almost a private Sean Smith show.

Even open mic nights ranged from tolerable to excellent.

Admittedly, we've only been to two shows there since Aiden was born (both were Kid Sister shows, and packed) but I will miss the music.

Many of you may not know my father lives on a sailboat. Sure he has tivo, laptops, GPS, GPRS Modem, DSL and cable (the later 2 only when not under sail) but a sailboat none the less. If I had been paying attention when he had been going on and on about his boat I could tell you how big it was. I do know it was made by 'Dufor'.

He is setting sail today on his annual vacation (I didn't realize people who lived on boats, needed a vacation) sailing from New Rochelle, NY to Newport, RI (Rhode Island, for those of you who's maps aren't printed in wall sized, is the tiny little state robbing both Connecticut and MA from some valuable shore line.)

Originally he was planning on soloing part of this 4 day journey, and having seen too many episodes of Gillian’s Island, Survivor (Richard Hatch is from RI, and we all know how messy THAT could get, and LOST) I decided it was a good excuse to mess around with Google Maps.

I created an email gateway that allows him to email latitude and longitude (from his GPS) to a certain email address which captures his position, and adds a data point to a scrolling (Thanks to Google) updating (thanks to me) map.

From a technical standpoint this may appeal to some of you, from a 'where is my dad' standpoint, it will appeal to even fewer of you. You can see the fruits of my labor at WheresDad or for people with Internet Explorer WheresDad For IE (I couldn't get some of the graphics working in IE).
